Shabbat with the Bishop of Woolwich

The community were delighted to welcome The Bishop of Woolwich, Right Reverend Dr Michael Ipgrave OBE to the sabbath morning service at the invitation of our minister. He will be leaving his post shortly after being elevated to become the Bishop of Lichfield.

Serving in his capacity as Chairman of the Council of Christians and Jews, Bishop Michael has been a staunch supporter of all of the interfaith events that we have held and has attended many special occasions at our synagogue. These include the induction of our minister, Rev Cantor David Rome and the visit to Catford of Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis when Bishop Michael and our minister entertained us by performing a sketch together.

The service was accompanied by a choir from the London Cantorial Singers and speeches were made by the Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock and Bishop Michael. Other dignitaries present in honour of Bishop Michael included the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Olu Babatola and the Arch Deacon of Lewisham and Greenwich, the Venerable Alastair Cutting.

A sumptuous Kiddush followed the service which was provided by our hard working Ladies Society for the community and guests.

The Catford and Bromley community wish Bishop Michael great success in his new role as Bishop of Lichfield.
